If the light is on, your device is working as expected. Warranty coverage applies only if a surge occurs and the device fails to protect your equipment.
Appliance damage can happen for a variety of reasons—such as normal wear and tear or surges entering through cable or phone lines. That’s why it’s important to confirm whether the surge came through your electric meter. If you still believe the device failed to perform properly, you may move forward with submitting a claim.
A technician’s evaluation helps confirm whether the surge damage occurred and ensures your claim includes all required details.
Obtain the following documents from the licensed technician:
1. An itemized invoice or repair estimate on an official company letterhead that confirms the damage to the covered item was due to a power surge. To help avoid delays, your invoice or estimate must include:
If the appliance is not repairable, you must also provide documentation supporting the replacement value.
2. A completed and signed technician certification form.
These documents will be required when you submit your claim.
The SurgeShield program includes a Limited Manufacturer’s Warranty covering major household appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, and dryers, up to $5,000 per covered appliance per occurrence. Find a full list of covered appliances here.
You will need a licensed technician’s assessment showing that the damage to your covered item was caused by a power surge. This can be documented on the SurgeShield Technician Certification Form or directly on the invoice. You will also need the item’s model and serial number.
Important: Please keep your damage item until your claim is resolved.

A completed SurgeShield Technician Certification Form is required. Please contact the technician and ask them to complete it. If they are unable to do so, you may need to use another licensed technician.
Before filing your claim, please check your SurgeShield device to make sure it is working properly after the incident. Follow the directions in the Getting Ready section to inspect the device.
